Dubai: The US military announced on May 3 that another 342 Iraqi soldiers captured during the war were released in the past 24 hours.

The US-led coalition that toppled Iraqi President Saddam Hussein still detains around 3,600 prisoners of war (PoW), US Central Command said in a statement.

It said a total of 5,745 Iraqis captured during the war have been released, including 2,894 who were determined to be non-combatants.

The US Defence Department said last month that military tribunals were operating in Iraq to determine the status of prisoners.
