Monday, May 5 2003 19:24 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: The government will bring the Women's Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha on May 6 in its original form, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesman V K Malhotra said.

He said Congress and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) had also wanted the Bill to be brought in its original form and had in a letter to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee expressed support to the Bill.

"Congress President Sonia Gandhi and CPM have in a letter said they would support the Women's Reservation Bill in its original form," Malhotra said.

He said two more Constitution amendments pertaining to empowering states to impose taxes in place of Value Added Tax (VAT) and delimitation of constituencies are also to be taken up in the current session.

The party has issued a whip for members to be present in the House when these amendments are put to vote.

Expressing shock over the killings in Kerala by a Muslim fundamentalist organisation, he said, "These kind of communal riots is not good for the country. This has happened despite warning by the Tamil Nadu intelligence department of possibility of such an occurrence in the coastal areas of Kerala."

He said the Centre has deputed Minister of State for Home, I D Swami to Kerala to study the situation.

On resumption of Indo-Pakistan talks, he said that country should immediately stop Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) activities in this country and end aiding and abetting militancy in Jammu and Kashmir

"All ISI and terrorist activities must be stopped if talks are to be held between the two countries.
