Islamabad: Ruling out possibility of immediate summit-level talks with India, Pakistan Premier Mir
Zafarullah Khan Jamali has said the parleys between the two countries could start at diplomatic and
ministerial levels in the coming weeks.
Stating that ice has begun melting between the two sides due to the steps initiated by them, Jamali said
before an all-party meeting on May 5 that the two countries could attempt to build a congenial
atmosphere for a meaningful dialogue through Ministerial and Ambassadorial level contacts.
Earlier, he told Pak TV that he was ready to go to India to further the peace process.
"I have written to the Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee that if he could not come to Pakistan,
for Pakistan, for India, for South Asia, I am ready to go there (India)."
"We are the well-wishers of the humanity, this is the goal we have to achieve and all other things are of
secondary importance," Jamali said, adding people of both the countries want peace in the region and
the recent developments were a "good omen" for them.
Jamali said Pakistan would respond positively to the move for peace in South Asia. "One-fifth of the total
world population live in the sub-continent, and peace will, 'inshallah', prevail in this region." he said.
He said he appreciated the positive approach shown by Vajpayee during his visit to Srinagar last month
and again in the Indian Parliament.
Referring to India's decision to restore full diplomatic ties and air links on reciprocal basis, he said
Pakistan would respond positively.
