VHP apprised of minorities apprehensions: NCM
Tuesday, May 6 2003 16:14 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: A day after the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) held a meeting with Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) top brass, the Commission on May 6 said they had conveyed the "apprehensions" of the minorities arising out of their trident distribution programme.

Pointing out that NCM have no authority to allow or to disallow the distribution, the Commission, in its statement said, "On our part we have apprised them (VHP) of the apprehensions of the minorities arising out of their programme.

"They (VHP) said it is a religious programme and the tridents, which they are distributing are only religious symbols," the Commission said.

VHP, during a meeting on May 5 had assured the Commission that they would not make any remark or undertake any such activity, which will hurt the minorities in the country.
