Two more SARS suspects reported in North India
Tuesday, May 6 2003 20:49 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Two more SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) suspects have been reported in the country even as the health of a probable case in Kolkata is improving, official sources said on May 6.

The two cases, a 71-year-old man and a 28-year-old man, in Karnataka conform to the WHO (World Health Organisation) case definition of suspect cases, the sources said.

One new case each has also been reported in Delhi and Punjab. However, the two cases, both women, do not conform to the WHO case definition of SARS suspects.

The woman admitted in a Delhi hospital has a travel history and fever, but she does not have any respiratory symptoms, they said.

The sources said the SARS probable case in Kolkata, admitted at the Infectious Diseases hospital, was improving with treatment. The case was being further investigated to rule out other lung infections.

Meanwhile, 6583 SARS probable cases and 461 deaths have been reported from 27 countries.
