Militants kill Army major in ambush in Rajouri

Jammu: An Army major was killed in an ambush by militants in Dharhal area of Rajouri district on May 6 night, police sources said.

Acting on a tip off, major A K Dubey, along with some Army jawans, led a patrol party to a forest area in Kamaran Gali in Dharhal, the sources said, adding the militants, who had taken vantage positions, opened fire killing the Army officer.

The troops returned the fire but the militants escaped into the dense forests.

The militants also took one rifle along with a magazine and two wireless sets from the Army officer before fleeing, they said adding reinforcements was later rushed to the area to track down the militants.
