Book Reliance Chairman under POTA: SP members
Thursday, May 8 2003 20:04 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Samata Party members in the Lok Sabha on May 8 demanded that Chairman and Managing Director of the Reliance group should be booked under POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act) in connection with theft of some official documents.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Raghunath Jha said a Delhi special court had directed that summons be issued to Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani because they had allegedly stolen official documents, which were seized by the CBI.

He said they should be arrested under POTA as they have not only undermined the country's security but they have also played havoc with the people's lives.

His party colleague Prabhunath Singh said this was a serious issue and came to light when CBI raided the premises of alleged mafia leader Ramesh and seized official documents stolen from various ministries. These documents had been faxed to Mukesh and Anil, he said.

Singh said CBI had held that there was a prima facie case against them.

The Samata Party member said it was believed that whoever went against the Reliance Group, they had been eliminated. He took the names of Kapil Mehra, Nusli Wadia, Rahia and the ISSAR Group.

They should be slapped with charges of disturbing the economic situation, illegally usurping nation's wealth and for stealing secret official documents, he said.

Devendra Prasad Yadav, JD-U (Janata Dal-United), said there cannot be different laws for the poor people and another set for the Reliance company. The owner and MD of the group should be booked for treason, he said.
