Gopeshwar: The Badrinath shrine reopened on May 8 for pilgrims after a break due to winter season
amidst chanting of Vedic hymns.
The 'kapaat' (door) of the shrine was opened by the chief priest, who performed 'pooja' along with
five 'pathees' – Ved reciters – who chanted hymns in praise of Lord Vishnu.
Uttaranchal Governor Sudarshan Agarwal participated in the prayers along with thousands of pilgrims.
The Badrinath shrine, one of the four 'Dhams', is located at an altitude of 3,110 metres above sea level
in Chamoli district in the Indo-Tibetan Himalayan border region of Uttaranchal.
