Lucknow: The president of Uttar Pradesh (UP) unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Vinay Katiyar has
sent letters to political leaders and Muslim intellectuals seeking their co-operation to help build up a
consensus for enacting a law in favour of construction of a Ram temple at Ayodhya.
In the letter sent to all Members of Parliament (MPs) and presidents of major political parties and Muslim
intellectuals, Katiyar stated that the excavations currently underway at the disputed site have proved
that it was a place of Hindu worship and no further evidences were needed to establish the claims of
Hindus over the area.
Though the court was doing the needful in resolving the dispute and its decision would be honoured by
everyone, Katiyar said there is a need for evolving a consensus on the issue, which could prove to be a
unique example of communal harmony and understanding.
Recalling the construction of Somnath temple, which was rebuilt by enacting a law in Parliament, Katiyar
said a new law could also be enacted to resolve the longstanding dispute, which has claimed several
lives till now.
Katiyar maintained it was improper to politicise the issue of faith and drag it to courts.
