Friday, May 9 2003 13:30 Hrs (IST)

Gandhinagar: The country gets the first of its kind Masters programme in Digital Media, which has been introduced by the Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DA-IICT), Gandhinagar.

The course is designed to facilitate and enhance the creative ability of the students, by offering a unique interdisciplinary programme for those with a basic degree in theatre, fine arts, architecture, design, film, crafts and similar fields, which call for a combination of creative skills and talent.

It combines an emphasis on communication theory and research methods along with new technologies, policy implication, and practical application.

Graduates will go on to positions of leadership and responsibility in media, corporations, new business ventures, government and non-profit organisations, as well as academia.

Faculty and student relation is valued at DA-IICT and students can get helpful information by sending an email to binita_desai@da-iict.org

Earlier, in April the government of Gujarat had granted University status to DA-IICT, which set the stage for it to emerge as a world-class institution for higher learning in the information and communications sector and in its interface with other sectors.

The convergence of information and communication would significantly improve productivity in all sectors, create new vistas of knowledge at the interface of information and communication technology (ICT) with other sectors and open new opportunities for economic growth.

India has the unique opportunity to lead the world in the information age, on the strength of her people power. DA-IICT has envisioned playing an important role in this quest by developing professional resources and helping build a pool of knowledge.

DA-IICT aims to be a research-led, world-class university in ICT, multimedia and interface disciplines such as robotics and automation. The academic framework of DA-IICT is designed to create knowledge and deliver education in these areas, which will not only revolutionalise society in the 21st century but also offer India an opportunity to attain global eminence.
