Ramanathapuram (TN): Four Sri Lankan nationals, who were lodged in a refugee camp in
Ramanathapuram district recently, have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody following
suspicious movements.
The four were found hiding in the Dhanushkodi coastal area earlier this week and removed to the
Mandapam refugee camp, police said.
While the Sri Lankan nationals were being monitored closely at the camp, intelligence officials grew
suspicious about their activities and recommended to the camp special deputy collector to arrest them
under the Passport Act.
On a complaint from the deputy collector, police arrested all the four who had since been remanded to
judicial custody on May 8.
The Sri Lankans earlier told the police that they had landed in India only four days back. But
subsequent enquiry revealed they had come three months ago and were moving around the country.
