Panel orders forensic analysis of Tehelka tapes
Friday, May 9 2003 15:04 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: The Commission of Inquiry probing allegation of corruption in Defence deals on May 9 directed forensic examination of the Tehelka tapes in view of the "serious doubts" raised over their authenticity, a demand made by Samata Party leader Jaya Jaitly for long.

The Phukan Commission, after considering the plea of various cross-examination noticees, including Jaitly who alleged that the tapes were "tampered" with, directed their forensic examination. The tapes form the basis of the allegations levelled by the news portal.

Jaitly's plea was turned down twice in the past by former Chairman of the Commission Justice K Venkataswami maintaining that there was no prima-facie case for the forensic examination.
