New Delhi: Describing the coming Assembly elections as the "final trial of strength" ahead of the Lok
Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) general secretary Pramod Mahajan on May 13 said issues
such as power, water and corruption would be the common poll plank in all the five states.
"The Assembly elections would be the last 'shakti parikshan' (trial of strength) between the Congress
and the BJP. We will fight them with full strength. Though Delhi is the smallest among them, in terms of
prestige, it is the biggest," Mahajan, who is also the central co-ordinator for the Assembly polls, said.
He was talking to reporters after addressing a meeting of the executive of the party's Delhi unit.
Asked whether the party would contest the polls on a common plank, he said while local issues may
differ from state to state, shortage of water and power, beside corruption would be the common factor in
all the Congress ruled states, including Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Rajasthan.
He also ruled out the possibility of the party entering into an alliance with its National Democratic Alliance
(NDA) partners including Akali Dal and Shiv Sena.
Earlier, addressing the state executive, Mahajan stressed on the need for strengthening the party
organisation.
State party chief Madan Lal Khurana declared "a war" on the Sheila Dikshit regime and announced the
formation of a "Sangharsh" committee headed by BJP Parliamentary Party spokesman, Vijay Kumar
Malhotra to expose the alleged failures of the city government on all fronts.
