Kolkata: Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) was maintaining its winning spree in zila parishad, panchayat samity and gram panchayat seats in the May 11 elections, as results were trickling in from 17 districts on May 13.

Officials said that CPM won 18 zila parishad seats, 97 panchayat samity seats and 307 gram panchayat seats as counting was in progress.

CPI (Communist party Of India), another left front partner, secured two zila parishad, 3 panchayat samity and 19 gram panchayat seats, while Forward Bloc bagged one gram panchayat seat.

Opposition parties so far failed to win any of the seats in the three-tier panchayat body.

Counting was taken up for 713 zila parishad, 8,500 panchayat samity and 49,144 gram panchayat seats amidst unprecedented security.
