Mumbai: In a major haul, police on May 13 night seized weapons and ammunition, including RDX and AK-
46 rifles, stored in a village well by Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) activists and Lashkar-e-
Toiba (LeT) militants planning to blow up key installations including railway stations and bus depots.
A team of crime branch officials, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Ramakant Padwal, raided
Padgah village after interrogating one of the accused held in Mulund bomb blast case.
Police sources said several handgrenades, AK-46 rifles and RDX were stored in the well. The
ammunition was taken out from the well by the police team.
They said the ammunition was stored by SIMI activists and Lashkar-e-Toiba militants who had planned a
series of bomb blasts in sensitive installations and public places like railway stations, bus depots and
departmental stores in and around Mumbai.
Padgah village had of late become a hotbed of militants. Police sources said terrorists had made
Padgah their base of operation because of surrounding hills where target practice was imparted to
unemployed youths for indulging in terrorist activities.
Altogether nine persons have been arrested in Mulund bomb blast case. They allegedly planned a
powerful explosion in a local train at Mulund railway station, which claimed 11 lives.
