Court allows Sanjay Dutt to go abroad for shows
Wednesday, May 14 2003 15:58 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: On certain conditions, a special court has allowed Sanjay Dutt, film actor and accused in 1993 bomb blast case, to visit UK, USA and Canada for performing stage shows from May 22 to June 30.

The permission was granted on May 13 by designated judge P D Kode on a plea made by Sanjay's lawyer Farhana Shah.

Sanjay urged for permission to go abroad to perform "Jalwa 2003", promoted by Elite Entertainment. He would stage performances with other actors, including Salman Khan.

The court directed the actor to file with the registrar a detailed programme of his visit abroad. He was warned not to establish contacts with absconding accused and asked to keep his lawyer present during his absence.

The court also directed the actor to file an affidavit affirming that his lawyer would represent him in case co-accused Majnu Mustaffa Dossa was joined in the trial. Dossa was deported recently from Dubai.

The judge has already exempted the actor and 86 other accused from personal appearance till May 19 but directed them to appear on that day without fail.

The actor is facing trial since his arrest in April 1993. He was granted bail in October 1995 by the Supreme Court. Since then he has been coming to the court regularly.
