SENSEX shows signs of rally at early trading

Mumbai: The SENSEX opened marginally higher and later showed signs of another rally during morning trading on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on May 15 on fresh buying by institutional investors as well as operators.

The BSE Sensitive Index opened up at 2,996.67 as against the May 14 close of 2,993.94 and later rose past the strong resistance level of 3,000 and was quoted at 3,007.97 at 10:30 hours (IST).

Domestic financial institutions and operators were believed to be buyers in select old-economy stocks, brokers said.

Banking sector witnessed a mixed trend with a few like Oriental Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Federal Bank and State Bank of India (SBI) showing smart gains while JK Bank, Corp Bank and Punjab National Bank falling back due to selling.

Frontline tech stocks like Infosys Tech, Satyam Computers and Wipro were quoted moderately lower on fresh sales.

Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the NASDAQ Composite Index on May 14 eased by 31.43 points and 4.78 points respectively.
