Militants trigger blasts; 13 civilians hurt in JK
Monday, May 19 2003 15:37 Hrs (IST)

Srinagar: Thirteen persons were injured when militants set off two blasts aimed at a Border Security Force (BSF) picket at the crowded Batmaloo bus stand on May 19, official sources said.

Militants triggered the first explosion by tossing a grenade towards the picket in the busy area of central city around 14:45 hours (IST). But the grenade missed the target and exploded on the roadside causing no damage, the sources said.

Fifteen minutes later, the militants caused another blast at the same site, this time injuring 13 pedestrians including four women, the sources added.

The sources said police and paramilitary officers who had rushed to the scene soon after the first explosion were leaving the spot when the second blast took place.

Police suspect the second blast was caused with a rifle grenade thrown by militants from nearby vicinity, they said.
