Jammu: Four women and two children of a nomadic Muslim family were slaughtered in the wee hours of May 19 when militants struck in a village in Rajouri district, police said.

Unidentified ultras entered the house of one Mehmood Gujjar at Chowaian-Kotdhara village at around 3 am and killed the victims, they said.

Initial reports said that militants were looking for a security personnel and a Special Police Officer belonging to the family, they said, adding when the ultras did not find them in the house, they killed the others.

Police and security personnel have rushed to the area to track down the militants who fled away after committing the heinous act.

The deceased have been identified as Khatoon Begum (60), Hanifa Begum (30), Zakira Begum (29), Taj Begum (20), Irshad Ahmed (4) and Maroof Ahmed (2).
