BSE: SENSEX opens higher on fresh support
Monday, May 19 2003 12:11 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: The SENSEX opened moderately higher and later showed narrow movements at early stages of the session at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on May 19 on selective buying support from institutional investors.

The BSE Sensitive Index opened up at 3063.14 as against last Friday's close of 3056.58 and later rose to a high at 3070.39 before being quoted at 3066.88 at 10.30 am.

Investors seemed to be more active in non-specified group with several second-line counters in keen demand during the morning trading.

After the last week's sharp rally, operators were more or less cautious expecting a resistance at higher levels, brokers said adding that the market still has not entered into a strong bullish mode.

Index stocks like BHEL, Grasim Ind, Infosys Tech, L&T and Zee Telefilms were quoted moderately higher.

Among the top gainers, ITI Ltd were quoted up by 8.52 per cent, India Cement by 7.17 per cent, Novartis by 6.66 per cent, Tata Elxsi by 5.72 per cent, Balaji Tele by 5.21 per cent, GSFC by 4.41 per cent, Adani Exports by 4.25 per cent, Trigyn Tec by 4.21 per cent and ONGC Corp by 3.36 per cent.

However, RCF, Moser Baer, HPCL, Federal Bank, Syndicate Bank and Zensar showed moderate losses.
