Pak considering more names for post of envoy

Islamabad: Pakistan on May 20 said it is still considering a "panel" of names for the post of its High
Commissioner to India and a decision would be taken at an appropriate time.
Clarifying on the prevailing confusion over the appointment of Pakistan's Ambassador to China Riaz
Muhammad Khan as the High Commissioner to India, Foreign Minister Khurishd Mehmood Kasuri
said, "No final decision has been taken about Pakistan's envoy to New Delhi."
The government is considering a panel of names and a decision would be taken at an "appropriate"
time, Kasuri told private Geo TV channel.
Hinting that the list of names have been expanded, Kasuri said more names were under
consideration.
The appointment of the High Commissioner turned out to be a major diplomatic embarrassment for the
government as the Pakistan Foreign Office denied an announcement made by Prime Minister Mir
Zafarullah Khan Jamali stating that he has cleared the name of Riaz Khan for the post.
Though it was initially believed that Pakistan denied Khan's appointment in order to follow diplomatic
formalities with India, officials said that Islamabad has not forwarded the "agreement" papers to India to
get its consent.
