Bangalore: India's experimental satellite, GSAT-2 (Geo-stationary Satellite Launch Vehicle), shot into
space by indigenous rocket GSLV-D2 on May 8, has reached its space home, Indian Space Research
Organisation (ISRO) said on May 20.
The satellite, launched from Satish Dhawan Space Centre at the space-port of Sriharikota, has been
successfully placed in its final geo-stationary orbital slot at 48 degree East
longitude, ISRO said in a statement in Bangalore.
Station acquisition manoeuvres were conducted from the Master Control Facility at Hassan in Karnataka
from May 14 to 19, by firing the 10 Newton Reaction Control Trusters on board to position GSAT-2
precisely at 48 degree East longitude, it said.
The last manoeuvre was successfully completed by 10 pm on May 19 by positioning the satellite in its
orbital slot, the statement said.
In the coming weeks, it said, the payloads comprising four C-band transponders, two Ku-band
transponders and a Mobile Satellite Service Payload would be tested out and data
on the four scientific experiments on board GSAT-2 would be collected.
GSAT-2 carries four experimental payloads, Total Radiation Dose Monitor, Surface Channel Monitor,
Solar X-ray Spectrometer and Coherent Radio Beacon Experiment.
