Madurai: M K Azhagiri, son of DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) chief M Karunanidhi, has been taken
into custody from his house at Azhagappan Nagar near Madurai early on May 21, in connection with the
murder of senior DMK leader and former Tamil Nadu Highways Minister T Kiruttinan.
Police claimed that there was enough evidence of involvement of Azhagiri, who heads the Azhagiri
faction of DMK, in the murder of Kiruttinan.
Kiruttinan was found murdered near his home while returning from the morning walk on May 20.
Azhagiri was produced before a local magistrate, who remanded him to judicial custody.
Before the remand order was passed, Azhagiri told the magistrate that he was "innocent" and the
charge against him was "concocted and fallacious".
The DMK leader, who was being taken to Tiruchirappalli central prison, told reporters that his implication
in the case "is politically motivated and I have nothing to do with the murder of Kiruttinan.
"I will face the false accusation in the court. I have neither any vengeance against anybody nor jealousy
and what police say is false," he added.
