Sumitra 'Paro' Mukherjee passes away in Kolkata

Kolkata: Renowned Bengali film actress Sumitra Mukherjee, who acted in more than 500 films including
the Bengali version of Devdas, died after a heart attack on May 21 at her residence.
Mukherjee, aged 58, is survived by two sons, family sources said. She was ill for quite some time, the
sources said.
Starting her film career in late 1960s, Mukherjee played the role of Paro in Dilip Roy's Bengali version of
Devdas in 1979 opposite Soumitra Mukherjee. The film also had Uttam Kumar playing the role of
Chunnilal.
Mukherjee was Uttam Kumar's leading lady in a number of films including the super-star's last film 'Ogo
Bodhu Sundari', Bengali version of My Fair Lady.
Mukherjee, who won a number of film awards including the Bengal Film Journalists' Association (BFJA)
award in 1985, had lately taken to the small screen and was acting in a number of serials and telefilms.
