Srinagar: The Army on May 22 foiled a major infiltration bid by gunning down 12 militants near the line of control (LoC) in Nowgam sector of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir, a Defence spokesman said.

The militants were killed in a gunfight, which took place when the troops guarding the border intercepted them as they tried to cross over, he said.

The operation in the area was still on as some more militants were feared hiding in the forest belt, he added.
