UP asked to file counter affidavit in poetess case
Thursday, May 22 2003 14:06 Hrs (IST)

Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court on May 22 directed the Uttar Pradesh government to file its counter affidavit within a month on a public interest litigation (PIL), seeking directives to the government to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the high profile poetess Madhumita Shukla murder case.

A division Bench comprising chief justice Tarun Chatterjee and justice Vineet Saran passed the order on the PIL filed by the former city mayor and senior Congress leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi and 'Chetna', a non-governmental organisation (NGO).

The court posted the matter for further hearing in the first week of July.
