Thursday, May 22 2003 13:31 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on May 22 dismissed a petition filed by Uttar Pradesh government
challenging an Allahabad High Court order staying investigations into cases against former Chief
Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and others on charges of misusing Chief Minister's discretionary money
during the period 1993-95.
Rejecting the allegation of bias against the High Court raised by the Mayawati government in passing a
favourable order towards Yadav, a vacation bench comprising justice N Santosh Hedge and justice
Shivaraj V Patil said the High Court would hear the petition filed by Mulayam Singh Yadav in 2003
August.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati had on April 14 filed 137 cases against Yadav for alleged misuse
of the Chief Minister's discretionary fund when he was the head of government in the state in 1995.
However, the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court had on May 7 restrained Uttar Pradesh
government from proceeding with investigations against Samajwadi Party
and his arrest till August 19.
