'Bribery case won't affect MDMK-NDA relationship'
Saturday, May 24 2003 12:25 Hrs (IST)
Chennai: Former Union Minister Gingee Ramachandran on May 24 said the issue of his resignation over
the alleged involvement of his personal assistant in a bribery case would in no way affect his party's
relationship with the NDA (National Democratic Alliance).
"I don't think so," was his reply when he was asked whether his resignation and the bribery case would
affect MDMK's (Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) relationship with the NDA government at the
Centre.
Talking to reporters at Chennai airport soon after his arrival from New Delhi, Ramachandran said he had
resigned from the Union Cabinet owning moral responsibility and also not to cause any embarrassment
to the A B Vajpayee Ministry at the Centre.
Asked if he thought there was any conspiracy in the issue, he said only a thorough probe could reveal it.
Replying to another question on what was his expectation from the probe, he once again said only an
enquiry could reveal everything.
Asked whether he would meet MDMK general secretary Vaiko, now in Vellore prison after being
detained under POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act), the former Minister said he would meet Vaiko and
also continue to work for the party.
