Kolkata: Trinamool Congress on May 24 formally opposed the induction of its senior party MP (Member
of Parliament) Sudip Bandopadhyay in the Union Cabinet, urging Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to
intervene in the matter.
The party faxed a letter to Vajpayee during an emergent working committee meeting, expressing dismay
at the report that Bandopadhyay was being inducted in the Cabinet along with party chief Mamata
Banerjee in a Cabinet reshuffle during the day, according to a senior party leader.
The letter also said that any decision to induct an MP of the party in the Union Cabinet without
consulting party supremo Mamata Banerjee was not correct.
The working committee meeting, which was still in session, is expecting a response from the Prime
Minister in the matter, after which a final decision on the next course of action would be taken.
