Sinha suggests Indo-Pak intelligence sharing mechanism

New Delhi: Questioning Pakistan's approach to cross-border terrorism, External Affairs Minister
Yashwant Sinha has suggested a joint mechanism by India and Pakistan that will include "intelligence
sharing".
"The terrorists move around Pakistan, go into Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and then cross over to
this side. It is not possible that there is no knowledge about their activities. So let us have intelligence-
sharing under a joint mechanism," Sinha said in an informal chat with a group of Indian and foreign
journalists on May 23 night.
The Minister was asked about claims by Pakistani leaders that the terrorist outfits were not under
Islamabad's control.
"If as they (Pakistan) claim, these things are happening outside their control, then they should have no
problem in agreeing to co-operate with us," he said.
On the recent reported crackdown by Pakistan on Hizbul Mujahideen, Sinha said, "We welcome any step
taken by Pakistan against terrorists, their networks and support systems."
He reiterated that if Pakistan was sincere in dealing with the problem of cross-border terrorism, it can
easily show this by dismantling terrorist infrastructure including their launching pads and communication
networks and turning off the tap on their sources of finance.
