TC induction in cabinet reshuffle dropped for now

Kolkata: The entire exercise of inducting Trinamool Congress (TC) in the Union Cabinet reshuffle on
May 24 has been dropped for the time being in view of the confusion about induction of the party
Members of Parliament (MPs) into the government.
"Prime Minister A B Vajpayee will discuss the matter with the party chief Mamata Banerjee at an
appropriate time with regard to the entire exercise," senior Trinamool Congress leader Pankaj Banerjee
told reporters, emerging out of the TC's emergent working committee meeting.
The party's reservation in this regard, he said, was conveyed to the Union leadership after the meeting.
Banerjee said the party felt that any decision with regard to any political party should be taken in
consultation with the concerned political party.
"This is the basic norm of alliance politics," the TC leader said.
Asked what would be the party's position if Sudip Bandopadhyay took part in the swearing-in ceremony
in Delhi, Banerjee quipped, "It is a hypothetical question. Let him do so and we will decide'."
