Pakistan ponders over MFN status to India
Sunday, May 25 2003 15:31 Hrs (IST)

Islamabad: Pakistan government is likely to hold a crucial meeting on May 26 to discuss pros and cons of restoration of business, sports, cultural and travel ties with India.

Officials from the concerned ministries would take part in the meet, the internet edition of "Dawn" reported on May 25.

The meeting, which is said to be preliminary in nature, would take place at Pakistan's foreign office.

One of the major issues slated to appear during the discussions is to consider the possibilities of extending MFN (most favoured nation) status to India.

The move is likely to affect Pakistan’s economy. Pakistani businessmen fear facing a stiff competition from their Indian counterparts, especially in terms of quality.
