Lahore: After the US' direction that funding of banned terrorist organisations operating on Pakistan's soil
be immediately stopped, hectic activities have begun here to please the "big brother".
On May 24 Pakistan's interior (home) secretary Tasnim Noorani reportedly held a crucial meeting with
the provincial authorities to devise a strategy to ensure activities of such terrorist organisations are
checked.
The US' advice is also understood to have hinted at stopping cross-border activities of such terrorist
outfits targeted against India.
Quoting highly placed official sources, a report in 'The Nation' said Noorani discussed several "harsh
steps" which the administration contemplates taking against such organisations.
The meeting, attended by Punjab Home Secretary Brig (Retd) Ejaz Shah and senior police and
administration officials, was secretly arranged at the residence of Punjab chief secretary Hafeez Akhtar
Randhawa, the report said.
Noorani also sought suggestions from the officials for evolving a joint strategy in this regard, the paper
said. He was also briefed about measures the Punjab government had taken so far to break the
network of jehadi outfits.
It is a well-established fact that after being banned in 2001, these outfits continued their operations
under different names. The terrorist outfits banned were- Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), Harkatul Mujahideen
and Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM).
