Two more arrested in Ghatkopar bomb blast case
Monday, May 26 2003 18:21 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Two more suspected activists of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) were on May 26 arrested in Ghatkopar bomb blast case and remanded to police custody till June 5, even as the judicial custody of prime accused Saquib Nachan and Atif Mulla was extended till June 2 by a special court in Mumbai.

Incarcerated accused in Mulund bomb blast case, Farhan Khot and Mohammed Jamil, were arrested afresh in Ghatkopar bomb blast case and produced before designated judge A P Bhangale, who remanded them to police custody till June 5.

Special public prosecutor Rohini Salian, seeking their remand, said police had gathered enough material to nail them in the crime.

As regards Saquib Nachan and Atif Mulla, the prosecutor said investigations were still on and hence their custody was required to be extended. Accordingly, the court extended the period till June 2.

Nachan was arrested in Ghatkopar bomb blast on April 29. Earlier, he was arrested on April 10 in Mulund bomb blast case.

With the arrest of these three accused in Ghatkopar bomb blast case, the links between the two explosions in Mulund and Ghatkopar have been confirmed and the police suspicion that the blasts were masterminded by the same conspirators has gained further ground.

In a powerful blast at Ghatkopar in December last year, two persons were killed and 30 injured when a bomb exploded in a bus. Altogether, nine accused have been arrested in this case.
