Monday, May 26 2003 17:24 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: India's Ambassador to Iraq B B Tyagi, who is operating from Jordan, would return to Baghdad shortly.

The decision was taken at the meeting of Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), which also discussed US request to contribute Indian troops for a proposed peace force in Iraq.

Briefing reporters on the CCS meeting, Foreign Secretary Kanwal Sibal said before taking any decision on contributing Indian troops, the government would consult UN, including its Secretary General Special Advisor, and the authorities in Iraq.

The Indian Ambassador and other mission staff had moved to Jordan in the wake of US-led war in Iraq.
