Mumbai: Notorious extortionist Ezaz Lakdawala was shot at by unidentified assailants in Bangkok on May 25, police said here on May 26.

Unconfirmed reports however said that he was killed in the firing. The assailants are suspected to be members of Chhota Shakeel gang.

Bangkok-based Lakdawala was initially associated with Chhota Rajan gang. Later he started on his own. He indulged in extortion and had targeted prominent businessmen and film personalities in Mumbai.

Some time back his men had attacked a noted filmmaker in Mumbai. However, the latter survived the attack.

Of late, Lakdawala had tied up with another gang led by Fazal-ur-Rehman alias Fazalu.

Lakdawala is suspected to have been gunned down due to gang rivalry. Post-mortem will be done during the day, the officials added.
