Surat: Actress Shilpa Shetty's father Surendra Shetty filed an anticipatory bail application in the district and sessions court on May 26, in an alleged extortion case registered against him in the textile city.

Shetty's counsel Prabhakar Upadhyaye filed the application on behalf of his client, sources said.

The application will come up for hearing on May 28 next in the court of district and sessions judge K M Vin, sources added.

The excerpts of telephonic talks between Surendra and a leading saree manufacturer allegedly reveal how he used the underworld to recover modelling dues of Rs 80 lakh payable to his daughter by the latter.

Surendra got a provisional bail from a court in Mumbai after a case was registered against him and his wife.
