Pakistan nominates High Commissioner to India
Tuesday, May 27 2003 09:53 Hrs (IST)

Islamabad: Pakistan has reportedly nominated its High Commissioner to India and handed over the agreement papers in New Delhi on May 26 for the Indian government's approval.

Pakistan daily "The News" quoted officials as saying that papers seeking formal approval of Indian government have been handed over.

The newspaper, however, did not disclose the name but at the same time hinted that the new appointee could be Aziz Ahmad Khan, who is currently the spokesman of the foreign office in India.

Earlier Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali had named Pakistan Ambassador to China, Riaz Muhammad Khan as the High Commissioner to India in an interview. The foreign office however issued a statement later saying that decision on Riaz Khan was not final.

An official announcement would be made after receiving the nod from the Indian government.
