Mumbai: The SENSEX opened on an optimistic note and moved further upwards in line with sustained
upsurge in old economy stocks during the morning trading on the Stock Exchange, Mumbai (BSE) on
May 27, on fresh purchases by foreign as well as domestic funds.
The BSE Sensitive Index opened past 3100-mark at 3103.56 over May 26’s close of 3096.69 and later
improved further to a high of 3113.97 before being quoted at 3113.52 at 10.30 am.
Brokers said old economy shares like RIL, Tisco, ITC, HLL, HPCL, BHEL and a few others witnessed
consistent fund buying and were quoted remarkably higher at early stages.
PSU and Bank stocks continued to be in keen demand and many them scored impressive gains.
Tisco rallied smartly on reports that the company might soon become the first Indian steel company to
turn economic value added (EVA) positive, by recording higher financial returns from the business than
the cost of the capital.
