New Delhi: As many as 16 Tehelka tapes were sealed on May 27 in the presence of cross-examination
noticees in the Phukan commission of inquiry to be sent for forensic examination, even as the order on
where the tapes will be sent for the examination will be passed on May 28.
An order, containing what procedure to be followed, when the tapes will be sent and other details, will be
passed on May 28, justice S N Phukan said. However, the commission said the name of the expert would
not be disclosed.
Various portions of these 16 tapes were marked by five cross-examination noticees including former BJP
(Bharatiya Janata Party) president Bangaru Laxman, Samata Party leader Jaya Jaitly and some accused
armymen, who raised doubts regarding the authenticity of the tapes.
Jaitly, who filed the primary application demanding forensic examination of the tapes, had submitted that
the tapes should be sent to a forensic laboratory with credibility, preferably outside the country.
FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) and Scotland Yard would be able to recommend a suitable expert
to whom the tapes may be sent directly, her counsel had said.
