64 dead due to heatwave in AP; toll rises to 494

Hyderabad: The toll in the unprecedented heatwave, sweeping parts of Andhra Pradesh, has mounted to 494 with reports of 64 more deaths due to sunstroke on May 28, official sources said.

The worst affected districts were East Godavari and Nalgonda with 85 and 82 deaths respectively while West Godavari, Prakasam and Karimnagar reported 52 deaths each and Guntur 46, the sources said.

Thirty-seven deaths were reported from Krishna, followed by Nellore 26, Warangal 11, Chittoor 12, Khammam nine, Adilabad six, Mahabubnagar and Rangareddy five each, Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam four each, Kurnool three, Nizamabad two and Cuddapah one, the sources said.
