Hyderabad: Despite peace moves by India towards Pakistan, there is no let-up in infiltration efforts from
across the border, Chief of Army General N C Vij said on May 28.
"On their (Pakistan's) part, intent efforts to push through infiltrators are continuing. The rate of success
may have dropped," Vij said in a brief chat with reporters on the sidelines of inauguration of Army
College of Dental Sciences (ACDS) on the city outskirts.
Asked whether tensions on the border had eased as a fall-out of the ongoing peace moves, Vij
said, "There is no let-up in infiltration efforts. If the number has come down, it is because of our effective
monitoring and interception."
Vij gave a guarded reply when asked about the proposal for sending troops to Iraq on a peacekeeping
mission. "The government is deliberating on the matter. I cannot comment on it till the government takes
a decision." he said.
Asked whether he felt the current peace initiatives would yield desired results, the Army Chief said, "one
should always be optimistic".
