Ambedkar's widow Savitha passes away

Mumbai: Savita alias Mai Ambedkar, widow of Dr B R Ambedkar, died of prolonged illness at J J Hospital on May 29. She was 94.

According to doctors attending her, Mai was admitted to hospital a month ago after she suffered from pneumonia and she was put on a mechanical ventilator.

The end came at 05.30 hours, the doctors added.

Mai, the second wife of Dr Ambedkar, was not keeping well since a long time but her condition deteriorated recently. Looking at her condition, Maharashtra Chief Minister had offered government help to bear medical cost.

She is survived by grandson and Republican Party of India (RPI) leader Prakash Ambedkar.
