Don't compromise on Kashmir: Subramaniam Swamy
Thursday, May 29 2003 20:42 Hrs (IST)
Thiruvananthapuram: Janata Party president Dr Subramaniam Swamy on May 29 cautioned the
Vajpayee government against making any compromise on Kashmir as part of the peace process with
Pakistan.
Swamy told a press meet in Thiruvananthapuram that though he welcomed the efforts to normalise ties
with Pakistan, it would be wrong to send signals in advance that India was ready to compromise on
Kashmir.
Swamy said he was in touch with former Prime Minister Chandrasekhar and leaders like Ramakrishna
Hegde as part of efforts to bring together various groups of Janata Dal into the Janata Party fold so as
to position the party as the main challenge to BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party).
He said Congress led by Sonia Gandhi had "failed to confront the BJP on any major issue".
Swamy said in Uttar Pradesh his party was prepared to support any government in which BJP was not a
partner.
Swamy also announced the new office bearers of the Janata Party's Kerala unit with Jacob Joji as
president.
