Bihar Opposition leader Modi ends fast
Friday, May 30 2003 11:29 Hrs (IST)
Patna: Leader of the Opposition in Bihar Assembly Sushil Kumar Modi ended his 24-hour fast on May
30, with Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ravi Shanker Prasad offering him a glass of
juice.
Modi had sat on dharna on May 29 to draw the attention of President A P J Abdul Kalam towards the
deteriorating law and order situation and seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the
kidnapping of a businessman Atul Prakash allegedly by former Bihar minister Surendra Yadav,
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLC Azad Gandhi and their cohorts.
Addressing the gathering at the dharna site, Prasad asked party workers to intensify the agitation
against the rising crime graph in Bihar.
The minister charged the State government with providing patronage to criminals and said the image of
Bihar had been sullied across the world as the government had failed miserably in maintaining law and
order.
