Guwahati: In continuing ethnic violence in Assam's North Cachar Hills district, two persons belonging to
the Dimasa community were killed on May 31 by suspected Hmar miscreants near Haflong, prompting
the district administration to re-impose indefinite curfew in the township.
Suspected Hmar miscreants attacked Longreng village, seven kms from Haflong township, which
resulted in the death of two Dimasas and disappearance of some others, official reports said.
Indefinite curfew was first imposed in the township recently after it witnessed outbreak of ethnic violence,
but the restrictions were gradually relaxed upon improvement in the situation. However, the May 31
violence has led to re-imposition of the curfew for an indefinite period in the township, the reports added.
N C Hills and neighbouring Cachar district have been the scene of ethnic clash between the two warring
Dimasa and Hmar communities claiming several lives.
