'Sindhu Darshan' to epitomise international unity
Sunday, June 1 2003 16:48 Hrs (IST)

Leh: Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani on June 1 said the day was not very far when "Sindhu Darshan" would become a symbol of international unity.

"Sindhu has already become a symbol of national unity and that day is not far when it will become a symbol of international unity," he said addressing the "Sindhu Darshan" festival.

Advani said just as representatives from all religions have come to attend the "Sindhu Darshan", representatives from China and Pakistan would also attend it in the days to come.

He said that he would request Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to take up with Chinese leaders during his forthcoming visit to China on June 22, a proposal to allow pilgrims to trek across Sindhu to reach Kailash Mansarovar.

Whereas it took 27 days to reach Kailash Mansarovar at present, a trek along the Sindhu would take only four days, Advani said.

He said a "Sindhu Darshan Bhavan"would be set up in Delhi to organise the entire 'Sindhu Darshan Festival'.

Advani said though tourism in Kashmir valley had gone down, Leh had witnessed more tourists in the recent years.

He however, felt tourists would again go to the valley with the restoration of peace.

Earlier, Advani offered Puja at the riverbank and saw performances by local artistes from Leh and Ladakh and some other states.
