Pak to raise Israeli arms sale issue with US
Sunday, June 1 2003 15:37 Hrs (IST)
United Nations: Pakistani Foreign Secretary Riaz Khokhar has said that President Pervez Musharraf,
in all likelihood, would raise the Israeli arms sales to India during his upcoming visit to the US.
He said Islamabad was making an assessment if sale of Israeli version of Awacs planes to India would
pose a security threat to Pakistan.
A report in 'The News' quoted Khokhar as saying that wide-ranging issues, including military and
economic relations between Pakistan and the US will be discussed when Musharraf meets US
President George Bush.
The latest progress in the Indo-Pak peace process is also likely to figure during the Musharraf-Bush
meet talks scheduled to take place at Camp David, which has once been the venue to bring Palestinians
and Israelis to the negotiation table to resolve their dispute with US help.
Rejecting reports that the US was luring Pakistan to "rollback" its nuclear programme by staging India-
Pakistan dialogue over Kashmir, the Pakistani official said, "Pakistan's national interest remains
supreme. I would like to assure people of my country that national interest would remain top priority while
strengthening Pak-American cooperation."
