Sunday, June 1 2003 10:28 Hrs (IST)

Srinagar: Hours before the scheduled visit of Congress President Sonia Gandhi to Baramulla in North Kashmir, security forces detected a landmine on the Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway this morning (June 1), official sources said in Srinagar.

The mine was detected near flood complex at Khawajabagh on the highway around 08:00 hrs, the sources said.

Flood complex is 500 metres from the venue of the public meeting to be addressed by Gandhi and several Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states who were here for the two-day conclave, which ended on May 31.

The security forces and police were engaged in defusing the landmine, the sources said.
