Monday, June 2 2003 11:17 Hrs (IST)
Patna: Two separate inquiries, one by the Bihar police and another by the East Central Railway, were
ordered into the derailment of 2391 up Patna-New Delhi Magadh Vikramshila Express near Buxar in
Bihar on June 1, in which one person was killed and 25 others were injured.
Director general of police (DGP) D P Ojha said he had asked inspector general of police – Railway (IGP)
V Narayanan to make a thorough probe into the derailment in the extremists affected area of Buxar
district and submit the report to the headquarters at the earliest.
Ojha refused to comment on the cause of the mishap and said it was too early to jump into a conclusion
that the derailment was due to sabotage. ''Unless and until there is conclusive evidence, it will be
premature to say that the mishap occurred due to sabotage.''
He also refused to comment on railway findings that tracks were broken and some iron cutting blades
found near the site of the accident. ''Let's wait for the inquiry report of the IG Railways,'' he said.
The railways ordered a separate probe into the incident. Railway safety commissioner (Eastern Circle)
Mahesh Chand has been entrusted with the task, East Central Railway chief public relations officer A K
Chandra said.
Chandra said Chand would visit the accident site on June 2 to make an on the spot inquiry into the
derailment.
The iron cutting blades, found near the five metre long broken track, would be handed over to the
Railway safety commissioner, he said.
